What's HOT...

Did you notice we left out the "What's NOT" part of the title!!

That's because EVERYTHING is HOT in the world of Numismatic errors.

Some recent record sales were:
1939 Jeff. 5c DDO (Dbl Monticello) PCGS 67 $4,600.
1961 Franklin 50c DDR NGC Prf 64 Cameo $3,450.
1901 5c On 1c plan. NGC AU55 $4,600.
1956 50c On 1c plan. NGC MS 65 $6,440.
1887 Morg. $ 35% Off Center PCGS EF45 $14,950.
2000-P Sac. $ Struck on Aluminum Scrap PCGS MS 65 $6,000.
527-565 A.D. Byzantine Gold Solidus Dbl Strk ICG AU 58 $2,500.
2000-P Sac. $ Struck on SBA Blank PCGS MS 66 $14,000.
2002 Louisiana 25c Dbl. Struck $1,025.
1980 5c On 1c (common Date) ms 64 $255.
1972-S 10c Dbl Struck PCGS Prf 67 Cameo $6,000.
1972-D Ike $ On Filipino 1 Piso plan. NGC 61 $1,840.

The two draw backs are, almost every dealer we know is complaining about how hard it is to get fresh material. The other is Error prices never go down!! There are no sales, reduced prices or house cleaning sales!!! Prices just seem to continue to go up, whether the coin is in the dealer's inventory 2, 4 or 11 months. Like we have mentioned previously, this is the kind of market that if you want the coin, you just have to buy it! To try to wait for the prices to come down just eventually costs you more $$.

There are just too many ways to sell error coins today! Customers, regular coin dealers, Mint Error dealers, Major Auctions, Websites, Coin Shows and eBay. State quarter errors that had slowed down in the past few months have seemed to picked up again, especially with the lack of fresh state 25c errors coming out. Prices have seemed to be on the rise again on State quarter errors, especially 2002 examples.

Off Metals are as hot as ever, as well as Indian cents & Buffalo nickel errors. Caps (bottle caps & Bonded caps) that were once a bargain, now seem to be hard to locate again. A lot of interest in Fold-Overs, Multi strikes and War Nickel errors, especially Off Metals dated "1943". There's that magic date again, seems anything dated that date and is an Off Metal/Wrong Planchet sells for several thousand dollars, naturally grade & condition plays an important part of the overall final selling price.

'Til next month... Enjoy the hobby.
