Common Error?

Take a moment to think of an error you have seen many of in the past that you no longer see with currently minted coins. We have seen a very scarce number of them on the market, and a lot of people are overlooking this fact.

Give up yet? It's the curved clip on modern Lincoln cents, namely those minted since 1997. How many have you seen?

We have seen only two new curved clips surface in the last year, both were quickly snapped up by knowledgeable collectors. What had typically been a $1 junk error box staple is now demanding between $25 and $40 per coin.

It seems that whatever company is making the cent planchets for the mint have really cleaned up their act! Clips of other denominations seem to be steady in numbers, and their prices have gone virtually unaffected, but the Lincoln cent clip is fast becoming a rarity in the market.

I guess we will have to change our mind about giving these away as we have done for so many years in the past!
