On May 21st, 2001, in New York City, Bowers & Merina Auction galleries held a public auction. Within this auction was a section of error coins which drew a lot of attention and some very high bids. lot# 518 1920-S Standing Liberty 25c in EF grade with a small Partial Brockage approx. 15% drew a $3,800. bid Lot #536 1979-S Proof Ike $ Broadstruck drew a $7,500. bid. Lot# 542 1976-D Ike $ witha 45% Curved clip drew an $1,800. bid Lot # 545 1976-D Ike $ CAP drew a $12,500. bid These are just a few examples of the very strong bidding action for error coins! $12.5k for a Ike Cap is VERY Strong.. and the prices mentioned |
were without the auction companies charges of 15% (juice). For addt'l information contact Bowers & Merina auction co., pob 1224, Wolfboro, NH 03894 The Long Beach show is now taking place , June 2nd. We expect several error dealers at this show to do very well. The upcoming ANA Convention in Atlanta August 7th-12th, should be another very active sight for error coins, we'll be there.
