This month, lets talk about Nickels.

In many respects, this is one of the most under collected series! In the 3 cent nickel series major errors are very rare, but draw very little premium next to many other type coins that are collected.. (3 Cent silver series errors are just the opposite and are very sought after) Shield and Liberty Nickel Errors can be found, though high grades are a real challenge. These also seem not to be highly prized by collectors and many dealers seem to steer away from them! But, many good deals and prices can be found in this series for major high grade pieces. Their time just has just not come yet.. But it will and those that have patience will draw large profits from these.

The Buffalo Nickel series: Always HOT!! this coin is very collectable as a straight coin, as well as an error. High grade buffalo errors are always sought after and are constantly setting new price records when the error is major & High grade.. High grade 40-60% Off Centers can be a real challenge to find and for your wallet! Off Metals rarely come along and either you want one or may not see another for a very long time..

Almost any error in this series sells instantly, in any grade. But try to stay with the higher eye appealing

grades as these will always draw the Biggest $$$. I know of 2 major collections of these beautiful coins, both have be in the making for a number of years (25 & longer). When these collections hit the market.. look out for some serious bidding.

Jefferson Nickels: Very collectable at some very affordable prices, though many prices have been going up.. A great set for the collector on a modest budget, with great growth potential! these have been around since "1938"!!! AND don't forget that 4 year series of War Nickels.. Very tough for high grade major errors, with superior growth potential. I look to buy these myself !

Off Metals in this series are Hot.. Nickel on cent planchets are currently in the $150-200 range, earlier dates go even higher ( early 1970's & before)

Look for Full dates, luster & eye appeal. Nickels on Silver dime planchets are Hot too! This series can offer almost everybody something, errors , varieties, RPMs, Overdates etc.
